A Bit of Styling: Cake Stand

Do you have a collection?  I know most women keep a collection of shoes, bags and jewelries.   I like those stuff too, but there's another thing that I'm fond of...plates, dinnerware, bowls, anything that will make dining more special!  This morning, I was putting out a set of plates to change our everyday plates (yes, I change plates for daily use every other month!  That way, I get to use all the plates.  No special plates for guests.   Everyday dining is always special!), when I saw my pretty cake plates.  Let me share with you how I use them, aside from holding cakes and pastries.

My favorite vintage dome glass cover, with 'PASTRY' etched on it.
(cake stand from Dapitan; glass dome from Tangs,Singapore;
tea set from Jenggala, Bali)

This one is perfect to hold candies, chocolates or after dinner mints.
(hand-blown glass plate and dome cover from Bali;
pillow behind from Arab St., Singapore)

Works as a fruit platter too!

The humble sweet potatoes in style...

Transport it to the bathroom, and you get a pretty towel holder!

Oh, and I also found these...I use it to hold sauces or vegetable sticks.
Both from Jenggala, Bali

And now, I thought it will make a good holder for my dangling earrings.
Perfect on my vanity tray!

All the earrings are neatly hanging, no more lost pairs!  Plus, they all look pretty on the dresser table.  Loving it!  Now it's your turn, check your cupboard and bring out all those pretty pieces.  I'm sure you have something there that you can re-purpose to prettify your space.  It only takes 'a bit of styling!'  Have fun!

Suggestion:  Pretty tea cups can also serve as a nice earring holder!

  1. I stumbled upon your blog because i was searching for online store selling cake plates w/ dome/cover. Can you recommend department stores/ mall stores or the like around metro manila that sell a wide range & quality cake plate. I found a few but they didn't look sturdy(seems like the connection between the base and plate is not strong; as if it was just glued on). Others didn't have domes or were too small.

    By the way, your blog is really interesting and inspirational from the moment i have read a few posts.

  2. Hi Kai! Thanks for dropping by! Such a shame that I am not able to update my blog. Been sick the whole week.

    Go and check Rustans home dept for some really nice glass cake stands with dome. They also have some at Gourdo's (Fort) or Living Well (Podium) It's not easy to find glass dome here. I got mine from Singapore. You can also go to Dapitan for really good deals, (I recently bought a square cake stand from there!) have to warn you though that once you see something you like, get it at once because it won't be there when you come back. And check also for the quality. Most of the items are export over runs.

    Hope you find yourself a cake stand with dome!
