Man's Best Friend

Are you a dog lover?
I'm not!
I do not do "doggie-baby talk."
I don't like touching their body.
I don't like feeling their bones and everything else inside.
I don't like hair on my clothes, nor on my couch, not even on my floor!
I don't like it when they stare at you and bark,
Like you're a runaway thief!
I don't like them licking me
All the more playing pretend bite.
I don't do fetch.
I just don't like anything to do with them!
But for the past 5 days, I became a convert.
(Yes miracles do happen!)

This dog named CHIQUI..
Made me do doggie-baby talk
She's actually talking to me on the photo above!
And one time I even called her Raphael! (my son's name)
Now it doesn't feel yucky anymore to caress her body,
do a bit of massage and even carry her around!
It's been 5 days only since she came
But it feels she's been part of the family ever since
Now we're all gaga over her!
O CHIQUI!  What did you do to me?
I thought it will be short and easy to dog sit
Now I am hooked on you!
There's nothing we can do but return you
To your rightful owner.
Please come and visit more often!

Note:  Chiqui is my sister's pet.  The whole family went out of town and Chiqui was left to our care.  She will be fetched today :-(  If I feel sad, Bianca will be depressed.  Chiqui slept with her every night! :-(  Yikes!  I can already hear her saying "Ma, can we borrow Chiqui?"  or maybe, "Let's get our own Chiqui. Please?  Pretty please?"

It took me this long to understand and experience why dogs are called man's best friend.  Can't argue more!

I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I wasn't a doggy person either but, in 1990 we gave in and bought Chloe, a golden retriever, for our sons who were 5 and 7 at the time.
Chloe shared our lives for 16 years and eventually became 'my' dog. Now we have another 'my' dog called Sunny and I can't imagine life without her. I would go so far as to say a home without a dog is an empty one.
Yes, do get a puppy for your family, you will never regret it.

  2. Hi Pamela! I'm seriously considering it. Have to convince hubby though. Will research also on which type of dog would suit our family's lifestyle. Thanks for leaving a comment.

  3. Hi! I just discovered your blog. Have you gotten a dog already? Like Pamela said, you will not regret it. We have a poodle, and she's such a joy. I hope you and your family will find a good match.
